Zithromax® (Azithromycin), sometimes called the Z-pack®, is a highly popular and highly potent antibiotic sold by Pfizer. Zithromax® can cause severe liver damage and liver failure resulting in death or requiring a liver transplant after very few doses due to its potency. This is reflected in the fact that it is usually dispensed in a short term (three day and five day) titration pack with far fewer individual doses than other antibiotics. It is for treatment of mild to moderate infections and is often taken as one pill per day. Z-pack has been re-designed to be a one day dosage antibiotic now called Zmax.
